Flaunt It, Luv It

Guest Writer: Tiffany

Sustainable fashion seems to be en vogue these days. This past Wednesday, Kwantlen University College’s grads showed off their collections at the River Rock to a full audience. The music was great, the models were hot and the clothes…well they were insanely tempting. Every collection was hot, and almost all of them had something that I would love to buy.

If I went through all the collections I loved, you’d be reading through pages and pages of stuff. The outfits were fierce, the models were sexy, and the music was infectious. The best part? Everything was made with sustainable materials. Now that’s hot.

Flaunt by Alecia Ebbels.

I am a huge fan of underwear. Anything that helps lift the girls is cool by me. And if you’ve got it, flaunt it. Alecia’s designs scream “flaunt me! show me off”! I loved the girly, frilly details; the silky, shiny material; and the use of lace – it’s so cheeky! Sorry about the pun, but it had to be there. Definitely not part of your everyday wardrobe, but lingerie that you should definitely have in your boudoir to spice it up just a touch.

House of Luv by Brieanna Soo

This girl’s three-outfit collection made me want to hit the dance floor as soon as her models walked down the runway. Especially when the disco ball went down! Her designs walk the line between hot and classy – where everything is still covered up, but it’s still sexy enough to hit the club with the girls. Each of the outfits are named after clubs that play house music, and the colours are after house songs.

The Eden dress is pictured up above in black (Tonight). Silk charmeuse with couching embellishments that will move with you when you shake that booty on the dance floor.

The Crush dress is shown here in a dark purple (Elektro). This dress is fierce – silk charmeuse with hand embellishments and hand-carved wooden details.

The First Date

Dating is hard. My last date will say it’s true. I rudely confessed that I didn’t like any of the dishes at the fancy tapas restaurant we were at, check please! Needless to say, there wasn’t a second date. It’s nerve racking enough to have to go through the first date rituals, do you go dutch, kiss or no kiss, is he going to be boring, how do you escape, what if you want him to come inside, OMG, dating is tough. It’s hard enough to think about all those questions, so make it a little easier by looking oh so fabulous. When you look fab, you feel fab, and you will be in a much better mind set on the date. I’m still waiting for that Wentworth Miller look-a-like I run into every morning to ask me out, in the meantime, I will be ready when he does.

The Art Gallery Date

I’m creative, but not very artistic. So if a boy were to take me to say the art gallery, I’d try my best to look the part. This pretty Kimchi & Blue Flutter Sleeve Dress from Urban Outfitters is uber cute and feminine with the ruffles and floral print.

The Casual Sunday Brunch Date

I’d suggest Cafe Barney on South Granville. A casual Sunday brunch is fairly non-intimidating. A cup of joe, some blueberry waffles and you’re ready to go. Even if the date’s a bomb, you’ll have had a yummy breakfast. This casual chic look is from The Gap.

The Concert Date

I’m hoping some boy takes me to see The Killers next month. I’m still obsessed with them. This hot look from Aritzia is the perfect mix of rocker chic. Down to the Alexander McQueen-inspired skull scarf.

The Fancy Date

Your date is taking you to a fancy restaurants, wow him with this yellow-tiered number from Zara. It’s flirty, it’s fun, it’s sunny. Forget the little black dress, he’ll want you even more because all eyes will be on you.

Three of the four styles shown are dresses or skirts. It’s all about workin’ the legs. My best friend said showing off the legs guarantees a second date. I’ll be testing out that theory on my next date, as soon as my legs heal from falling down the stairs in my four inch heels. Ouch.

Get Bikini Ready

It’s only March and it’s chilly and cold outside, but who says you can’t start dreaming about the summer months. Calling up the girls, picking up some cold drinks and the must-have fashion and gossip mags and heading down to Kits beach for the ultimate day of nothing but lying on the beach and checking out cute boys. And tannings free! Yes, only a few more months till I start doing that on a regular basis. It’s never too early to get prepped though. Sign-up for those extra yoga classes, cut back on the carbs and pick-up the hottest bikini to start your summer 2007 off right.

Billabong bikinis are pure gorgeousity. Some of the trends for Billabong’s bikinis for summer 2007 include:

SURF-INSPIRED - What can I say, this look is hot.
PRINTS - Graphic appeal, stripes, plaids and bold florals.
COLOURS - Basic black will never go away, but don’t overlook cool blues, black and white and the big colour this season brown.
DETAILS - Ruffles, smocking, belts, embroidery, lacing and foil screen details.
BIKINI TOPS - Slide triangle, halter, reversible, w/removable soft cups, bandeau (I love bandeaus!).
BOTTOMS - Tie side, hanky ties, boy bottoms, easy rider and low rider

Billabong bikinis are available at Off The Wall and Swimco.

Pretty & Prettier

Earrings make you prettier. This is an actual fact, I swear I heard it somewhere before that earrings make you 25% prettier. I’m always down for anything that makes me prettier. Vain? Just a little. I truly do love earrings though. My wrists are small, so I have trouble finding bracelets that fit. Rings often get in the way when I’m typing away on my laptop and I’m virtually married to my Mac. However, I will make room for any diamonds, preferably one carat plus. In the meantime though, earrings are my accessory of choice. They really finish off a look. If I’m headin’ out with the girls to the club, I might wear a hot little black mini-dress, but what makes it smokin’ are the fabulous pair of Citrine by the Stones Rain Earrings.

West Coast girls love hoops. I must admit, I have a HUGE collection of hoops. But instead of another pair of classic hoops, try these Juicy Couture Heart Hoop Earrings available at Blue Ruby.

After seeing Jennifer Aniston in The Breakup, I became obsessed with leaf jewellery. Jennifer’s jewellery was made by Jennifer Meyer (Toby Maguire’s wife). A more affordable alternative are these Lindsay earrings from local designer Sugarlime, made with 14kt gold fill and fresh water pearls. Available at Sugarlime.com.

Local designers Mimi & Marge have always been one of my favourites. I must own at least seven or eight pairs of their simple but stunning designs. On my wish list, the Wind Beneath My Wings Earrings. Available at MimiandMarge.com, Beautymark and Blue Ruby.

These earrings are sooooo pretty. These Aqua Breeze earrings are made with 14kt gold fill and glass. By local designers Modish, available at Modish.ca.

I think I’ll wear these to the Virgin Festival at Thunderbird Stadium to see The Killers. These hot earrings from local designer Toodlebunny are called Rocker Chic. Oh so perfect to rock in to Read My Mind. Available at Shop Cocoon.

Nothing is more classic then a pair of studs. I’ll take a pair of these studs from Mimi & Marge’s Engagement Series, at least until my boyfriend buys me the real thing. Available at MimiandMarge.com.
