Bronzed Glamazon

Summs-summa-summatime is here, which means it’s right about that time to slip into a bikini, one-piece or vintage ruffled swimsuit number, put on a chic floppy beach hat and lay on the beach all day.

But first things first.

It’s pretty much a beauty faux pas to be beach-bound (or patio-bound) and pasty. Thank- the-cosmetics-god there are a slew of bronzers and bronzing lotions to aid you in getting tanned and glistening (but not of the Lohan, Hilton and, on occasion, Theron streaky orange kind) before letting loose into the sunshine.

The queen of all bronzers is Guerlain’s Terracotta Bronzing Powder. Not only does it moisturize, stay put and control any potential facial oil slicks, it also gives you the most enviable glow – Jennifer Lopez withstanding. Guerlain used to be a tough one to find, but Shopper’s Drug Mart now carries the line in most of its newly revamped cosmetics sections across the nation.

If you are a chronic bronzette, then you may want to turn to Cargo’s The Big Bronzer – trust me, it will take you through this summer and possibly the next. Packaged prettily in a copper-y, mirrored compact, the sunburst etched into Cargo’s popular medium-hued powder reflects all those good vibes that come with the summer season.

Au natural gals, take note. Origins’ Sunny Disposition Bronzer is just what you need for that wholesome, I’ve-just-frolicked-in-the-sun-today look. Thanks to shots of Vitamin C and lack of oil, talc and aluminum in this organic option, you’ll actually be as healthy as you look.

Being on a budget (i.e. no new shoes, clothes or fashion magazines) can be a pain, but at least Physicians Formula’s Magic Mosaic Multi-Colored Custom Pressed Powder can save your glow and your wallet. The petal-shaped sections contain different shades, that way as the summer season passes into fall and winter, you can adjust your powder color. Three cheers for all-year bronzers!

If your face is suspiciously darker than the rest of your body, get thee to a drugstore and pick up Aveeno’s Continuous Radiance Moisturizing Lotion. Its new, patented dial technology gives the reins to you as to what summer shade you want for your body, gradually darkening your natural skin color over daily use. Kind of nice to be in control, no?

So adios, tanning beds and Mystic Tan. Us glamazons have a new way to get bronzed.

My Man’s Shirt

My summer wardrobe will consist largely of dresses. It’s perfect dress season. One of the must-have styles this season is the shirt dress. It reminds me of waking up and putting on my man’s shirt, more sophisticated of course. Light coloured shirt dresses can be quite sheer, so definitely do the light test to make sure the dress is not see-through, unless that’s what you’re going for (a la Britney Spears). I like the versatility of shirt dresses, it’s like a blank canvas, add a textured belt, chunky bracelets or vest and in the fall, wear the dress with tights and boots. Shirt dresses can be found at stores like Costa Blanca, Guess and Zara.

Net-A-Porter.com Sale

Most of my shop talk are about things you can buy locally, but I had to post this. The fabulous online shopping site Net-A-Porter.com is having a Sale Extravaganza. It’s not just a sale, it’s an extravaganza! Jimmy Choo, Rachel Roy, Sass & Bide, Marni, Miu Miu, Derek Lam, Vivienne Westwood, Chloe, Christian Louboutin and so many many more. Designer at a discount, my favourite. Stella McCartney Suedette peep-toe pumps at over 50% off. Marc Jacobs Ingrid Quilted Leather Shoulder Bag, so hot. And I definitely want the Anna Sui Crochet Mini Dress, I’m all over the mini dresses this season. Net-A-Porter.com is also Victoria Beckham’s favourite shopping site and you know the woman has good taste, I mean, she married David didn’t she.

Shipping via Canada Express is $40, it’s next business day, so really, with the great exchange rate, we’re talking steal.

I’m Loving

No matter how broke I am, no matter how little time I have, no matter how stressed I am, I will make time to browse and shop. It’s like a drug, I’m sure you can relate. Here are some of my current loves.
