Girl of the Week

We love when we find nladies who are the epitome of personal style and got balls (read: a Destiny’s Child kinda confidence just to be exact) to flaunt it. As they should! CAIT nWOOD is all that and a little kick in the pants. Our Girl of the Week, hails from Calgary, but now labels beautiful Vancouver, home sweet home. No debate there, unless we start nhockey talk. On the verge of finishing up her fashion education at Blanche Macdonald, Cait will soon start styling with the team over at Gorgeous. After nsetting sails on a cruise breezing through India, Egypt, Greece, and Italy, that is. Fab-u-lous!

Sweet Stuff: As far as work goes, I love that I can have fun doing what I love to do and being endlessly passionate about it.

The Rundown: Tops layered up from Aritzia and Club Monaco. An Aritzia Base jacket nwith some True Religion jeans, Stuart Weitzman heels, Gucci bag and Juicy jewellery.

Femme Fatale: Make-up and dresses combined make me feel oh so pretty. Gotta say I am mostly a girly girl, nthis connects me to my feminine side.

Hit List: A preferrably coloured short leather bomber jacket. It can be worn with an array of outfits and pulls more than one look together.

Fashion Injection: I try and use the influence of new trends mixed with fashion classics. My mood really affects nwhat I wear each day.

Caress Thy Sole: I absolutely love rocking out in funky or nsexy shoes. Shoes are an outfit deal breaker so always hunt down and strut the best pair of shoes!

In The Closet: The LBD (Little Black Dress). Always needed, never removed, timeless, suits almost any occasion and can be glammed up or dressed down.

n

Frequent Customer Card Over Here: I really try to shop a little everywhere. nBut, where I go the most is online at Shopbop.com. They carry some of my favourite designers along with many hot new ones that are putting out their first ncollections. I love how the carry so many lines and have oodles to choose from.

Get-a-way Spot: Bal Harbour Shops in Miami, Florida. Based outdoors so shop away under the rays of the sun and nbeautiful Koi fish ponds. Plus my favourite American store, Intermix is there.

Fast Forward: The sheered chinchilla, grey, double-breasted tent coat from the Christian Dior 2008 Fall Collection. Loves its!!

Fave Sexy Peeps: Dita von Teese, Kylie Minogue, Johnny Depp and David Beckham.

A Colourful Spring

If your idea of print and pattern is a striped tee or polka-dot flats, than you and your tamely patterned wardrobe will be stylishly stunned by Marimekko. This fabulous Finnish textile emporium is joining forces with H&M to bring us gorgeous dresses, tunics and skirts packed with bold prints and patterns. Marimekko’s most popular patterns from the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s will be fun and fresh “like a vitamin injection,” according to Margareta van den Bosch, H&M’s head of design. Over 50 pieces of retro-inspired Marimekko designs will hit H&M’s everywhere in April as part of H&M’s summer collection.

While you stay frugal with H&M’s decent price tags, fashionistas everywhere will be splurging on Marimekko’s other vividly patterned venture. Marimekko teamed up with Manolo Blahnik for his Spring/Summer 2008 collection. Cheeky florals with exaggerated stitching and loud graphic patterns merge with Blahnik’s appreciation for architecture. These designs are already available in New York and London, so if you’ve been hit by Marimekko madness just scrimp, splurge and wear those patterns with pride.

Oscar Fabulous

Starlets took to the merlot carpet in full force this past weekend for Oscar night (insert paparazzi flashes). As the Hollywood honeys posed and gracefully sashayed down their version of the catwalk, this Style Spy was taking notes on the latest trends in fabulousity. No dress distress here!

Trends to steal for a night of glamour in Hollywood North:

1. Red is “It”
Turn on the red light (sorry…TLC moment). Call it whatever you want: fire-engine, ruby, crimson, cherry, the ladies loved red. Miley Cyrus went for Valentino, Heidi Klum chose a red silk taffeta John Galliano number she is planning to auction for charity, and Kathryn Heigl matched her vintage-style red silhouette with old-Hollywood curls.

2. Shoulder Time

Full strapless and simplistic one-shoulder gowns, gave an air of femininity. Jessica Alba showed off her baby bump and newly grown taa-taas in a strapless Marchesa. The rosette detailing on Anne Hathaway’s single shoulder strap became a garden-worthy focal point. Hilary Swank, in black Versace also pulled off the one-shoulder with floral detailing combo.

3. Serious Ice
Cameron Diaz had a fashion faux-pas moment when she forgot Bulgari made her shiny $2 million diamond ring (she asked her date, while the cameras were rolling). The excessories were glittery and far from understated. Keri Russell paired her elegant and simple pastel pink dress with an oversized necklace, after her stylist vetoed the idea of wearing just a pair of stud earrings. Renee Zellweger let her ridiculously sparkly, stacked diamond bangles do the talking, choosing to stay away from other jewels.

4. Under the Sea
It’s no surprise The Style Spy’s fav celebrity stylist, Rachel Zoe was behind Jennifer Garner’s gorgeous black mermaid-style (form fitting at the top and flaring out like a tail at the bottom) gown. Best Actress winner Marion Cotillard found her inner Ariel with a cream, scaly mermaid creation designed by Gaultier.

Here’s to champagne wishes and caviar dreams. Flossy, flossy.

Quick Thinking Boots!

There’s no denying it. Wearing your makeup to bed (cringe) is a complexion killer! And every make-up loving maven among us has been guilty of this glamour sin. A late night here and there will drive any skin care perfectionist to skip the four-step routine for a little extra shut eye. But never fear —Boots No.7 is here. And they brought along their Quick Thinking 4 in 1 wipes.

Straight from the UK, where Boots No.7 skincare line is a household name, the Quick Thinking 4 in 1 wipes (and the rest of their No.7 product line) has finally hit shelves in Canada. Packaged in aqua blue plastic with a white flip top (so they don’t dry out), these wipes promise to remove eye make-up, cleanse, tone and moisturize in a swift swipe or two. And, they most definitely do. They are substantial in thickness so you can get away with using just one and with an extra rub or two over the eyes, they’ll even remove your mascara. Since they are fragrance-free and gentle on most skin types (although they do contain witch hazel which some may find irritating) they shouldn’t replace your regular skin care regimen.

Pack them in your bag for a last minute over-nighter, a post-work out freshen-up or toss them on your bathroom counter for nights when you just want to fall into bed.

For all you on-the-go social butterflies, we suggest you think quick and boot it to the nearest Shopper’s Drug Mart (select locations) to pick up a pack of 30 wipes for 30 guilt-free nights.
