We caught up with Girl of the Week, singer DIVINE BROWN for an afternoon java right nbefore her show at the Commodore in Vancouver. A native of Toronto, Divine was in town to showcase her upcoming album The Love Chronicles, an album that takes audiences through a nmusical journey through the matters of love. Inspired by the likes of Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Al Green, Divine will surely be burning up the ncharts all summer long.
Style Icons: Stevie Nicks in her heyday, nwhen she broke off from Fleetwood Mac and was doing her solo album. Debbie Harry for sure. Tina Turner had an interesting sense of style. The whole thing in the 80’s, when she rocked those nshort mini-leather skirts with the slit on the sides with the pumps and the short jean jacket. That was tight.
My Personal Style: Is a mish-mash of what I’m feeling at the moment. Right now I’m into the styles from the 80’s, today I’m wearing nankle booties and leg warmers, some leggings. The top/dress is more 60’s, bought in a boutique in LA.
Day-to-Day Look: I love skinny jeans, I just bought a pair of Foxy skinny jeans with tiny ntiny polka dots in Montreal. I hated polka dots for the longest time, but I’m digging them now. I’m totally into leg warmers.
Must-Have: Hoops. Hoops will never go out of style. I love big hoops, that’s a signature thing.
My Staple: Lip gloss! Favourite gloss right now is Beauty Rush by Victoria’s nSecret, it’s cherry and vanilla. Also loving MAC Neo Sci-Fi Tinted Lipglass in nSupreme, I mix them together.
Fave Places to Shop: I love to go nshopping in Montreal. I love LA too. What I dig about LA, whether it’s on Sunset or Melrose, you’ll find some really cool little boutiques and gems.
Last Purchase: I bought a pair of L.A.M.B. shoes. I’m wearing them in pictures for my album. nBeige, black, white and gold. And cute!
Save On: I like to save nmoney on underwear! Cute underwear, I’m always looking for the deal up in La Senza, 5 for $15!
Splurge: Clothes, clothes and more clothes. Today I bought a professional flat iron. When it comes to beauty products, anything with skincare. Right now nI’m using Biotherm, the whole Aquasource Therapy line, the serum, it’s amazing for my skin. I got to make sure I’m cleaning my skin correctly on tour.
Show Stoppers: For my shows, it depends what I’m feeling, it’s always going to have a 60’s feel, nI fuse different periods into one. That represents the record. For instance, I might rock some leg warmers with a 60’s inspired dress.
The Every Day Girl: I like Winners, H&M, The Gap, Club Monaco, Bedo, nLe Chateau and B2.
Guilty Pleasure: Dark chocolate. Dark chocolate and more dark chocolate. Last night I had dark chocolate gelato at Mondo Gelato.
