Hot Night In The City

We caught up with a few of our favourite gals to find out what they’ll be wearing for New Years…

Custom fitted jumper by Carlie Wong.
- Natasha Neale, Office Manager, ION Magazine

Still haven’t narrowed down to THE outfit, but it’s between a one shoulder black ruched Nicole Miller dress with my black patent round toe Christian Louboutin pumps OR an Alexander Wang velvet corset dress with one shoulder purple overlay paired back to my sky high Miu Miu peep toes.
- Lenirose Espiritu, Regional Public Relations Manager, West, Holt Renfrew

I will be in Mexico so hopefuly a cute summer dress that I have to dig out of my summer time closet. Or something with lots of lace! Thats my fave look right now.
- Kiara Schwartz, Sales Representative, The Dakota Group

I think I’m going casual and conservative, so I think I’m going to do my wool Obakki’s sloach neck dress and a rope chain necklace that I just ordered from New York, floral tights from Winners and this cute black sweater with big brass buttons from Target.
- Vivian Ko, Owner, Wink Beauty Lounge

I have no idea what I’m doing or let alone wearing for NYE but probably knowing me a black simple mini dress, funky heels and studded accessories with big hair and poppin’ makeup of course.
- Andrea Tiller, Fashion Makeup Artist

A silver sequined frock - the same shine theory as every year but in a new silhouette and new high heels.
- Ishra Sharif, Fashion & Lifestyle Writer

A full length vintage Pucci gown, I have been waiting to wear this special number and what better place then the Viceroy on New Years Eve. It will be worn with silver flat sandals and a vintage resin clutch. Hair inspired by Hitchcock’s Marnie.
- Lauren Victoria Armstrong, Owner, Party Skirts

If I go to a lounge, I will probably wear my black ruched BCBG mini dress, opaque tights and a boyfriend blazer. However my friend just invited me to an 80’s theme soirée in LA so I might be breaking out the stirrup pants and hairspray!
- Amy Lu, Fashion stylist

This will be a last minute decision, but it’s sure to be something ridiculous as I’m headed to a circus-themed bash. In my dreams it’s something from the beloved surrealist designer Jean Charles De Castelbajac.
- Leila Bani, Fashion stylist

Je Suis Très Particulière

Word on the street is, Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2010 runway nail polish shade is going to debut in January 2010. Following its mint green predecessor ‘Jade’ is the much-anticipated ‘Particulière’ (Particular); a muted dove grey. Other colours include ‘Tendresse’ (Tenderness) a soft sheer pink and ‘Inattendu’ (Unexpected) a subtle peachy nude. I haven’t seen girls go crazy over Chanel Le Vernis since the early 90’s with the infamous rich dark chocolate-red ‘Vamp’ shade. Who knew that nail polish shades could become so highly coveted? But when it comes to French luxe brand Chanel, anything is possible.

Chanel is available at Chanel Beauty Counters at the Bay and Holt Renfrew

Warm For All Eternity

Lately I’ve been catching cozy eternity scarves wrapped around necks all over town. Also known as circle and infinity scarves, these scarves are perfect for combating a cold front. After all, a stylish scarf is not only the perfect finishing touch to your winter ensemble but also a great way to stay toasty. But I almost left out the best part – eternity scarves don’t require any effort in careful and artful wrapping. A simple pull over your head and you’re good to go for all eternity.

1. Unisex Circle Scarf $34 CAD, American Apparel
2. Roxy Glow Scarf Approx $30 CAD
3. Marled Eternity Scarf Approx $40 CAD, Urban Outfitters
4. Attitude MD Infinity Scarf $29.99 CAD, Sears

New Years Night Out

This post is running in today’s Vancouver Sun. Pick it up!

With 2010 soon upon us, there’s no better way to ring in the new year then in style. Here is a selection of our favourites to make your night fun and fabulous.

Make A Statement
Recycle a little black dress already in the closet by adding this retro-chic Vintage Fur Collar Necklace from Dotted Loop. Designed locally by Teresa Smed, the Dotted Loop collections feature one-of-a-kind sustainable pieces. Ultra glamorous, this piece is made with Martha Sturdy pearls, vintage fur, chains, rhinestones and antique findings with a 14karat gold-plated clasp. It reminds us of Old Hollywood and we love it!

Vintage Fur Collar Necklace $385 is available at Fine Finds Boutique, 1014 Mainland Street, Vancouver, 604-669-8325 www.finefindsboutique.com

All That Glitz and Glam
Add a bit of fun and sparkle to your outfit with an eye-catching soft beaded clutch. Available in a multitude of colours, the clutch is classic and can be worn season after season. Pack only your essentials to keep the clutch slim and sleek.

Jen Beaded Clutches $99-129 are available at Club Monaco www.clubmonaco.com

Red Hot Lips
The simplest way to make a statement is with a pair of glamorous red lips. Inspired by the likes of Dita Von Teese and Gwen Stefani, this classic colour will doll-up any look. Tips for wearing this bold shade: balance off the look with light eye makeup, apply a little concealer around the border of the mouth to prevent bleeding and use a lip brush for a more precise application. Now the only thing left is to decide who to kiss when the clock strikes midnight.

Lady Bug Red Lipstick $16.50 is available at MAC Cosmetics www.maccosmetics.ca

Hey Mister
Who says you have to wear a dress on New Years? Go menswear-inspired with this black sequin tuxedo blazer. Pair with perfectly tailored pants and killer heels to dance the night away. To make it through the night, try not to wear brand new heels or keep a pair of ballet flats on standby – your feet will thank you.

Sequin Tuxedo Blazer $79 is available at H&M www.hm.com/ca

Luxurious Lashes
Sadly, we’re not all born with long luscious lashes, but that doesn’t mean we can’t fake it! Frequented by local celebs, Wink Beauty Lounge is known in the city for their seamless semi-permanent lash extensions. Each eyelash extension is applied directly to the individual lash – trust us, it’s worth the effort. These babies will look soft and natural, as if you were born with them! They last two to three weeks, but you can extend their lifespan to eight weeks with refills. For those looking for a short-term one-night only option, Wink also stocks traditional false lashes from basics to fancier versions featuring rhinestones and feathers.

False lashes $2-$16 and Semi-Permanent Lash Extensions $65-$220 are available at Wink Beauty Lounge, 67 East Cordova Street, Vancouver, 604-696-9465 www.winkbeautylounge.com

Perfectly Coiffed
Gorgeous hair makes everything better. At Blo Blow Dry Bar, you can be perfectly coiffed in 30 minutes for just $31. No cuts, no colour, just wash, blo and go! The menu includes six signature styles, including European Chic (a sleek perfect ponytail), Hollywould (flirty with plenty of curls and bounce) and Bardot Updo (think the legendary goddess Brigitte Bardot). The best part – blowouts can last up to a few days and often look even better the next day.

Blowouts $31 are available at Blo Blow Dry Bar www.blomedry.com
