Beauty Counter: It’s a Crime Not to Prime

Having a hard time making your foundation last all day? Wish there was a way to control an oily Tzone? Face Primer is the key plus it has so many benefits for your skin it would be a crime not to use it. Before applying foundation or any makeup, apply Primer to prep your skin for a flawless complexion. Primer moisturizes and hydrates the skin. It evens out skin texture and creates a smooth surface for applying foundation by minimizing lines and pores. Worried about your foundation causing breakouts? Primer creates an invisible barrier between your skin and makeup. It prevents makeup from absorbing into your skin and reduces the chance of breakouts. It also improves the hold of your makeup, helping your foundation to last longer throughout the day. Primers come in oil control formulas for oily skin, hydrating formulas for normal to dry or color correcting formulas to reduce redness. Even if you are not wearing makeup, apply Primer on its own to protect your skin from outside elements. If you are using sun block or moisturizer, apply them before the Primer. Massage the Primer with your fingertips all over the face and let it absorb into your skin. It will leave your skin looking healthy and glowing and your makeup looking fresh the entire day.

Oakridge Style Night

Nicole and I had a chance to check out Oakridge Style Night at Oakridge Centre last week to see what’s hot for Spring/Summer 2010. The event was hosted by Flare Magazine’s Elizabeth Cabral. She highlighted five major trends: Tribal/Exotic Traveller, Scuba Chic, Nude/Blush Tones, Florals, Lingerie Inspired Day Wear. And guests asked their most pressing style questions including:

What are the hot trends in beauty this coming summer?
Lots of colour. A great eyeshadow or lipstick colour. Clean glowing skin and loose soft waves for hair.

For someone who is petite, what are the best kind of pants?
Buy a pair of killer heels to go with pants that taper at the ankle.

What should I do if I have “fat back”? (Yes, she asked about fat back. Love it!)
Spanx! Also invest in great undergarments and underwear.

What hats are hot this season?
A tailored fedora. Very Lauren Bacall. And a floppy oversized hat is great for summer.

What staples do I need to build a better wardrobe?
A well-fitting jacket, one for Spring/Summer and one for Fall/Winter. A great day to night dress, like a shift works well for most body types. And fantastic accessories really elevate the most basic look. A fantastic shoe, something with an animal print, a polished bag. Great accessories really make you feel powerful. And you can’t forget a pair of really “hot jeans”.

One key piece that will be transitional for Spring to Summer?
A fantastic dress. Throw on a trench or mix it with hosiery when it’s chillier in the Spring. On it’s own in the summer with sandals.

Girl of the Week

This week’s Girl of the Week is the lovely CHRISTINE NGUYEN. When I first met Christine, I couldn’t help but notice her incredible sense of style. Every time I run into her, she always looks so well-put together. Whether she is at work or going for a night out on the town, this girl knows how to work it! With a Communications and Publishing degree, Christine hopes to pursue a career as a buyer or publicist. In the meantime, she keeps herself busy by running the crazy/beautiful madhouse that is Zara. So if she looks familiar, now you know why. A few weeks ago when the Style Spy crew stopped in to shop, we took one look at Christine’s fabulous outfit and knew she had to be featured. Ladies, meet Christine.

Wearing…Zara blazer + dress, H&M men’s leather belt, Michael Kors men’s gold watch, Tiffany rings, and Matt Bernson flat sandals.

My personal style…It usually depends on my mood and I hate spending time in the morning getting ready so I’ll grab the first things I can reach. I love chic elegance, androgyny and a bohemian vibe so I guess it’s somewhere in between.

I feel most comfortable in…A slouchy tee, destroyed skinnies, and an oversized shirt

Girl crushes…Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller, Kate Bosworth, MK+Ashley, Erin Wasson & Kate Moss.

Industry Favourites…Giovanna Battaglia, Christine Centenera, Melanie Huynh, Emmanuelle Alt & Kate Lanphear.

Shopping wish list…Isabel Marant Bardu Boots, Proenza Schouler PS1, and although it’s a tad early, the gorgeous cropped shearling jacket from Burberry Prorsum F/W 2010.

The Beauty Gods have blessed me with…Clinique Pore Minimizer (this does wonders!), NARS bronzing blush duo, and Bobbi Brown soothing face tonic.

Favourite shops…Kitson, Intermix, Shopbop, Misch, One of a Few, Jonathan + Olivia and of course Zara.

Most recent purchase…Vanessa Bruno bag + TOMS shoes (perfect slip-ons for the summer).

Wardrobe essentials…Alexander Wang tanks+tees, skinnies (love Current/Elliot Jeggings), leather motorcycle jacket, and flats to change into after a day in heels.

Fashion pet peeves…Anything ill-fitting (I’ve seen it at its very worst, cutting people out of dresses and bustiers, bra-less and all. Thank you Zara!)

One thing every girl should have…A beautiful bag & shoes.

Can’t live without…Coffee, my Blackberry and Macbook.
