Driving through Kerrisdale one rainy night a glimmer of hope caught my eye; a fantastic, gold sequined, Tracy Reese skirt hanging in the window of new boutique Jules & Eve (2009 West 41st Avenue). Style Spy girls can skip the drive-by this Saturday and stop-in from 11 to 6:30pm for the grand opening of the store (don’t forget to tell them Style Spy sent you). We chatted with Jules & Eve’s Sara Au Yeong for a sneak peek at what’s inside.

In the name:
I have always loved the name Jules. It’s one of those names I would name my kid in the future. As for Eve, it represents all the desirable dresses and makeup in the store.

Known for:
We specialize in dresses for events, cocktails, parties, you name it. We want our store to be ‘the place’ for dresses, especially when [ladies] have a last minute invite; we always have the best styles.

Hot brands:
Jay Godfrey, MINT Jodi Arnold, Betsey Johnson, Jason Matlo, Angel Jackson, Ecoskin, FEVER UK, Ruthie Davis, Frocks by Tracy Reese, Plenty by Tracy Reese, Tracy Reese - she has 3 divisions in total - Twenty8Twelve, and Felix Rey. We only carry 1 to 3 pieces per style.

For the makeup bag:
Stila Cosmetics - only the best of course. And Juara Skincare; [this line of] divine skincare and bath and body products is made from ancient Indonesian ingredients.

What hits the racks:
I pick 75% of it based on what I love and the rest [are things that] might not be my style, [but I think others would like]. So far, the feedback has been, “Your store has beautiful pieces.” I think this formula is working.

Your ensemble for the grand opening:
I am definitely leaning toward a Jay Godfrey piece. So in love!

Grand opening extras:
We are offering 10% off all dresses from November 14th to 16th. For makeup, there’s $10 off for any $75 purchase before tax. We are also serving dainty sweets and savouries from The Secret Garden, the ‘it’ place in Kerrisdale for high tea.
