Beauty Counter: Tinted Moisturizer

As my summer tan begins to fade (insert crying here), my skin is looking a little lackluster (read: I look way too tired when I’m not). My usual routine, (a bit of powder, blush and mascara) doesn’t seem to have the same effect as it did in the summer when my skin was tanned to perfection. I’m thinking I need to add a tinted moisturizer to spice things up and give my skin a much needed boost of colour. I find there are three steps when venturing out and buying a new beauty product: first, lots of research on the web, followed by asking friends for advice, and then finally, scouring Sephora and other department store’s beauty departments for new products and asking those beauty counter ladies in the white lab coats for their opinion (of course there could be more, and can be done in any order you see fit). I’m on the “ask friends for advice” stage, and by friends - I mean you. So far, in my research I’ve found the top three are:

1. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Approx $45 CAD
2. Chanel Hydramax Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15 Approx $65 CAD
3. Bobbi Brown Extra SPF 25 Tinted Moisturizing Balm Approx $48 CAD

I’m thinking of getting samples of each to try, as they are quite the investment. But now dear friends, the question is… have you tried any of these? What is your favourite tinted moisturizer? Help, please!

My favourite is Stila tinted moisturizer. It’s sheer, lightweight, and gives even coverage which you can layer if you want it on a bit thicker.

If you’re looking for something that goes on nicely and is better than a tinted moisturizer, I suggest MAC’s mineral liquid coverage, which also has SPF15 in it. Both options are about $30.

I’ve recently tried Neutrogena’s tinted moisturizer and I have been really happy with it!

I bought Clinique’s Sheer City Block tinted moisturizer (SPF 25) because it delivers a bit of colour, has SPF, and promises to mattify skin while I was in Las Vegas. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m sure I’ll post a product review on my blog when I finally get around to it!

I’ve also heard good things about this Clinique one, let me know what you think when you do try it!

I haven’t used a tinted moisturizer before, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Laura Mercier one. Have you looked at http://www.makeupalley.com for reviews?

Erica and I always talk about makeupalley! It’s actually where I go to first (most of the time) and where I found these three. Now with all these new suggestions… I think I may have to get samples of all of them!

I’ve also heard lots of good things about Lancome’s tinted moisturizer.. but it looks quite heavy in terms of the colour, and I like sheer coverage.

I use the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and I love it. I also use it with their Foundation Primer (oil-free). It goes on great and gives just a hint of color, while also evening out my skin!

I use Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer as well, it’s my favourite and a little goes a long way with this product.

Tinted moisturizer has been on my mind lately. I have a Bobbi Brown liquid foundation that’s light, but feels too icky on my face to wear all day … I use mostly Bobbi though, thinking I might grab one from Murale. How does that one feel on your skin?

I really like Marcelle’s tinted moisturizer. I found that Clinique’s was too thick and didn’t blend well.

i’ve heard good things about Mac’s face and body foundation. it is a really light coverage. i have laura merciers and it is definitely lighter than hers. it’s more runny in texture whereas laura merciers is thicker and pretty good coverage for a tinted moisturizer.
I dont reach for the laura mercier one often, if at all now because it is a shade too dark for me.

hey, it’s me Louisa~
I’ve tried Laura Mercier, it’s pretty moisturizing and shimmering. I think it’s good for winter but not for summer. It makes me look “oily” when I use it in summer….but I have to say, the colour looks very natural, I’m still using it!

i’ve tried the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer….i thought it was okay, but i still need a little more coverage around my nose area (black heads…grrr)…..and i actually tried the some kinda gorgeous by benefit….its quite good as it gives me more coverage than a tinted moisturizer but it still feels very light and also it’s oil free!
