Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the JNBY Winter 2009 Preview Party, which was held at their fabulous new location on West 4th. Established in 1994 and originating from Hangzhou, China, JNBY Canada was founded in 2008 and their first North American store opened up in Vancouver. Currently, there are three locations in Vancouver: Metropolis @ Metrotown, South Granville, and now Kitsilano (all three worth a stop by).
While I munched on canapés and sipped champagne with a friend, we walked around to have a look at JNBY’s new winter collection. The concepts were strong yet simple and I loved how unique each piece was. As the show started, a cobalt blue coat immediately caught my eye. There were lots of chunky knits and fabric blends consisting of linen and wool. The silhouettes were well constructed yet chic and I loved the draping on the jackets and coats, which reminded me of origami. I could mentally visualize each piece unfolding and being re-folded into a whole new look. The overall colour palette focused on neutrals like grey and white while incorporating olive greens, navy blues, and deep maroons. Clothing is a work of art that should make beautiful and meld instantly with your individual sense of style. So remember, to Just Naturally Be Yourself or JNBY and everything else will fall into place.
