Girl of the Week

I first met NICOLE TAI at a social media workshop at SFU. We immediately hit it off with our love of Twitter! Effortlessly cool, super nice AND a loyal Style Spy reader, I knew she had to be Girl of the Week. To get a lil’ crazy, I decided to change up the Girl of the Week questions by asking Nicole simply about her favourite things…it’s a free for all today!

1. Simplicity in Geekery…Typography. Muji. Ampersands.

2. Food… And lots of it. Here’s my (very condensed) list of food-love: Soft-pretzels at Aunt Anne’s, NYC, Omuraisu (Omelet rice) in Harajuku, Japan, Polish Platter at Lomzynianka Restaurant, Brooklyn, NY, Anything @ Ethiopian at Fassil’s, East Vancouver, Box sushi at Toshi’s, East Vancouver and Foie Gras Nigiri at Octopus Garden, Kitsilano.

3. Extra virgin olive oil…I used to be a dedicated LUSH’s Gorgeous moisturizer user… but with the $84 price tag, I had to give it up. Doubling as a makeup remover, cheap moisturizer and cooking essential, I can’t live without EVOO.

4. Maybelline’s Full & Soft Mascara, Waterproof… Somebody convince Maybelline to carry this mascara in Canada again; I’ve been using this mascara for the past 7 years! It keeps a curl, doesn’t flake or smudge and doesn’t over thicken. A must-grab when you venture into the States!

5. Cheap Mondays & Uniqlo jeans… most comfortable jeans I’ve ever tried on, and Uniqlo Japan doesn’t require hemming for my short short legs.

6. I Believe In Adv (www.ibelieveinadv.com)… Hand in hand with simple geekery, as a marketing student and a fan of creative designs, this website allows me to keep up with the new and creative ad campaigns from around the world.

7. Musical talent…Whether I am running 10-blocks up Broadway in 4″ heels 10 minutes before curtain call for Wicked, or sitting on the subway in Manhattan listening to a homeless man recite Schubert’s Der Erlkönig, if there’s one thing I can appreciate, is true, unadulterated talent and the hard work that’s put into perfecting it.

8. Fedora…I own only one and it’s my best bad-hair day friend. Regardless of how untameable my hair is, I can always count on it to not only complete a look, but hide my poofy hair.

9. Twitter…It’s addictive! Who needs wifi and data when you can have tweets sent directly to you via text messaging?

10. Finally…Muk Muk. GO CANADA GO! What’s not to love about this little orange & cyan toque wearing, Canada-loving rodent?

And I love Uniqlo for just the opposite-it’s the only place in Japan that makes jeans long enough for my long legs! They really are the best skinnies I’ve had, and you can’t beat the price.

Hehe I love Muk Muk too! He’s a marmot shaped like a potato–the cuteness factor is off the charts.
